The Information War Over Ukraine

Description

No matter how or how often war is fought, the result is the same: it works out horribly for pretty much everyone involved. So in light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it’s pertinent to ask: how do governments keep convincing people that war is in their best interests?

This video seeks to answer that question, but we can sum it up in one word: propaganda.

Rosie the Riveter; “Keep Calm and Carry On;” the portrayal of the Japanese as monkey-like … they’re all examples of childish, facile, condescending propaganda — and that’s only from World War II.

For more detail, we spoke to Abby Hall Blanco, Associate Professor of Economics at Bellarmine University, and co-author of Manufacturing Militarism: U.S. Government Propaganda in the War on Terror. (She also recently appeared in our video called “Why is the TSA a total flop?” Watch that one here.

Professor Hall Blanco helped us define propaganda and discern its tactics, through the lens of how the Bush administration garnered support for its disastrous wars in the Middle East.

Also chiming in with firsthand experience of Russian propaganda is Felisia Mendosa, Students For Liberty’s Travel Manager.

This video references two other key videos of ours to explain why war SHOULD be a thing of the past:
